This Privacy Policy (the “Policy”) describes how we collect, process, and communicate your personal data as part of our activities.

Association Liban Avenir Meilleur (ALAM) is a Swiss law association, domiciled at 5 rue de la RĂ´tisserie, #705, 1204 Geneva (the “Association” or “we”).

The purpose of the Association is to promote and carry out any initiative of general interest for disadvantaged people in Lebanon, whether through direct support or support to public interest institutions active in Lebanon. The Association also aims to promote and preserve essential Lebanese collective assets, targeting cultural heritage, environmental heritage, and economic environment. In this context, the Association supports projects and develops its activities mainly in the fields of education, health, humanitarian aid, environment, and sustainable development (the “Activities”).

This Policy concerns all natural persons whose personal data we process, regardless of how the personal data was collected and the method of processing (the “Concerned Persons” or “you”).
In particular, we collect the personal data of the following Concerned Persons:

  • Beneficiaries of the programs developed or supported by the Association, which may include minors and their parents or legal representatives (the “Beneficiaries”);
  • Donors of the Association;
  • Employees and volunteers of the Association;
  • Contact persons and representatives of the recipients mentioned in Article 4 below;
  • Persons consulting our secretariat and any other person who contacts us.

The term “Personal Data” refers to all information that relates to an identified (e.g., by first name, last name) or identifiable person (e.g., an ID card number).
The Personal Data that we process in accordance with this Policy may be collected by the Association from the Concerned Persons or via external sources, whether public information or information obtained from third parties (e.g., our Partners, as defined in Article 4 below).

When you provide us with Personal Data of third parties, you must (i) ensure its accuracy, (ii) inform the Concerned Persons of the communication of their Personal Data to the Association, and (iii) provide them with a copy of this Policy.

The Association may process the following categories of Personal Data in the context of its Activities:

  • Information related to the health of Beneficiaries, particularly medical diagnosis, in the context of health-related programs;
  • Information related to the education of Beneficiaries, particularly education level and schooling, in the context of education-related programs.

We also collect Personal Data when you visit our website and/or fill out the online contact form. We invite you to consult the Cookie Notice.

We process Personal Data, as described in Article 2 above, for the following purposes:

  • To fulfill our contractual obligations:
  • In the context of our Activities;
  • To register and support Beneficiaries in our programs;
  • In the context of managing relationships and aid programs in collaboration with our Partners (as defined in Article 4 below).
  • By virtue of an overriding private or public interest:
  • To develop our Activities;
  • To improve our organization and internal processes;
  • To establish, exercise, and/or defend real or potential rights in legal actions, investigations, or similar procedures;
  • To ensure the safety of people, property, buildings, and the Association’s IT infrastructures and systems.
  • To comply with legal or regulatory obligations to which we are subject.
  • Based on your consent: for all Personal Data processing that cannot be based on the above purposes, the Association collects the consent of the Concerned Person.

Personal Data may be communicated to subcontractors or third parties if permitted by law, if necessary for the management of the contract with the Concerned Persons, if a legitimate overriding interest justifies it, or if the Concerned Person has consented. Personal Data may also be communicated to third parties if we are obligated to do so by legal provisions or court decisions.

In particular, the Association may communicate Personal Data to the following recipients in the context of its Activities:

  • Organizations that we support or that help us implement our programs locally, such as associations, foundations, organizations, or companies active on the ground (the “Partners”), when necessary to integrate Beneficiaries into the corresponding programs;
  • Schools, universities, training organizations, or specialized centers (in the context of education or inclusion programs) or hospitals or health centers (in the context of health programs) when necessary to integrate Beneficiaries into the corresponding programs;
  • Service providers who assist the Association in implementing its Activities.

In this context, Personal Data may be communicated outside Switzerland, particularly to Lebanon or France. If Personal Data is communicated to a state that does not offer an adequate level of protection within the meaning of Swiss data protection legislation (such as Lebanon), the Association ensures the implementation of appropriate technical, organizational, and legal safeguards to protect Personal Data, such as the conclusion of standard contractual clauses approved by the European Commission and the Swiss Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC) with the recipient.

For details on applicable safeguards, please contact us using our contact form.

The retention period of Personal Data depends on the applicable legal and regulatory retention period, as well as the purpose of the Personal Data processing.
A longer retention period may be justified to allow the Association to establish facts, exercise its rights, defend against a current or future claim, or to face an investigation by a public authority.

If you wish to obtain more information on retention and deletion periods, please contact us using our contact form.

The Association does not perform automated processing of Personal Data to evaluate the characteristics of Concerned Persons (profiling) and does not use automated individual decision-making in relation to Concerned Persons.

You have the following rights regarding the processing of your Personal Data, within the limits provided by applicable data protection legislation:

  • Right of access: to access your Personal Data and obtain information about the processing of your Personal Data by the Association;
  • Right to object: to object to the processing of your Personal Data;
  • Right to rectification: to request that we update and correct any inaccurate or incomplete Personal Data we hold about you;
  • Right to withdraw consent: to withdraw at any time the consent given for the processing of your Personal Data, when such consent is the basis for processing your Personal Data, with effect for the future;
  • Right to erasure: to request the deletion of your Personal Data;
  • Right to data portability: to obtain your Personal Data that we process in an automated manner and that has been collected based on your consent or in direct connection with the conclusion or execution of a contract between you and the Association, in a structured, commonly used, and machine-readable format;
  • Right to request the restriction of the processing of your Personal Data.

The above rights may be limited or excluded if there is doubt about the identity of the Concerned Person or if necessary to protect other persons, to preserve legitimate interests (such as establishing, exercising, or defending a legal right), or to comply with our legal obligations.

You also have the option to contact the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (https://www.edoeb.admin.ch/edoeb/en/home.html), which is the Swiss data protection authority if you are concerned that the processing of your Personal Data is not compliant with the law.
