STRENGTHENING NEONATAL CARE AT HÔTEL-DIEU DE FRANCE – BEIRUT

A Joint Initiative by ALAM Suisse, Rotary Club de Beyrouth, and Other Rotary Clubs

Hôtel-Dieu de France University Medical Center in Beirut has welcomed two essential additions to its neonatology unit: a state-of-the-art vein viewer and a pediatric bronchofibroscope. This advancement in care was made possible through the leadership of the Rotary Club de Beyrouth and the generous support of ALAM Suisse, as well as the contribution of the Rotary Club Sahel Metn, the Rotary Club of Beirut Cedars, and the Rotary Zurich Circle International.

These devices represent a meaningful investment in the wellbeing of Lebanon’s youngest and most vulnerable patients, ensuring that the hospital’s medical teams can continue delivering precise, safe, and timely interventions even under challenging national circumstances.

A Project Born from Collaboration and Shared Purpose

During the handover ceremony at Hôtel-Dieu de France, the hospital’s Director General, Nassib Nasr, highlighted the immense pressures facing Lebanon’s healthcare sector. With the hospital’s social fund covering nearly three million dollars in patient support in 2024 alone, he emphasized how vital external partnerships have become in sustaining life-saving care.

Despite shifting donor priorities worldwide, the needs in Lebanon continue to grow. This project stands as a reminder of the impact that committed local and international partners can achieve when joining forces.

Why These Devices Matter for Newborns

Vein Viewer

Newborns and young children often require frequent blood tests or IV access, but their delicate veins can be difficult to locate. The new vein viewer enables staff to access veins swiftly and accurately, reducing repeated needle attempts, minimizing discomfort, and limiting the need for invasive procedures requiring anesthesia.

Bronchofibroscope

The pediatric bronchofibroscope allows physicians to examine and intervene directly within the airways of infants and small children—essential when transporting fragile patients is risky. With its integrated light source and screen, it supports advanced diagnostics and treatment right at the bedside.

A Lasting Investment in Lebanon’s Future

This initiative embodies the spirit of solidarity at a time when Lebanon’s health institutions face profound challenges. By equipping Hôtel-Dieu de France UMC with advanced tools, the project strengthens the hospital’s capacity to serve thousands of newborns and gives families renewed hope. ALAM Suisse is proud to work with its partners to promote excellence in healthcare and improve lives across Lebanon.
